A ski lodge or mountain lodge is a building designed to house and protect from the weather climbers and hikers located in mountain areas generally inaccessible, or in the countryside. Most are managed by Alpine Club. The traditional mountain huts have only basic services: health, community kitchen and shelter, sharing a room with other mountaineers. Most have some type of electrical generator and have a station in case of problems. The new shelters tend to introduce services of hotels, including providing meals, but comfort is still rustic. Most are owned by an Alpine Club, which offers discounts to members. Its management are responsible guardians appointed by the club. These guards can live in the hostel permanently or, because of their inaccessibility or during the winter tents season, regularly address maintenance.
